Dogecoin and Shiba Inu coming soon to AMC theaters
AMC Theaters CEO Adam Aaron provided an update on his company’s progress in accepting dogecoin (DOGE) and shiba inu (SHIB) cryptocurrency memes.
AMC Entertainment Holdings (NYSE: AMC), aka AMC Theaters, is the largest film exhibition company in the United States, Europe, and around the world. The company owns or operates approximately 950 theaters and 10,500 screens worldwide.
Aron tweeted Thursday that he has been asked several times when AMC plans to accept dogecoin and shiba inu cryptocurrencies “for all payments made through AMC’s website and mobile app.” He said he was told that AMC is still “on track” for the implementation promised in the first quarter, noting that the exact month is most likely March.
AMC’s executive announced in November last year that his company would accept DOGE and SHIB through Bitpay. At that time, Bitpay had not started supporting shiba inu. Aron claimed that the crypto payment processor decided to start supporting SHIB upon his request.
Aron also said at the time that AMC would start accepting shiba inu in the first quarter of this year. In early December, Bitpay, which already supported DOGE, started supporting SHIB.
