The world’s largest film exhibition company, AMC Theaters, is on track to accept popular Dogecoin and Shiba Inu cryptocurrencies during the first quarter of this year. AMC Theaters CEO Adam Aaron provided an update on the company’s progress in implementing Dogecoin and Shiba Inu online payments after being repeatedly asked for a launch schedule on Twitter by even corner community members. Aaron had tweeted in November that AMC Theaters would accept DOGE and SHIB through Bitpay – a promise that was kept in December after Bitpay started supporting Shiba Inu after already taking over Dogecoin payments.

Aron took to Twitter to state that he was repeatedly asked when AMC plans to accept Dogecoin and Shiba Inu cryptocurrencies “for all payments made through AMC’s website and mobile app. “. He said he was told that AMC was “on track” for the promised implementation in the first quarter, noting that the exact month was most likely March.

AMC Theaters is the largest film exhibition company in multiple markets around the world, including the United States and Europe. The company owns or operates approximately 950 theaters and 10,500 screens worldwide.

AMC’s executive announced in November last year that his company would accept DOGE and SHIB through Bitpay. At that time, Bitpay had not started supporting Shiba Inu. Aron claimed that the crypto payment processor decided to start supporting SHIB upon his request. Aron also said at the time that AMC would begin natively accepting Shiba Inu in the first quarter of this year.

Aron also published a Twitter poll in late October asking if the company should accept Shiba Inu payments, and 81.4% of people voted “sure”.

AMC Theaters had announced in November last year during an earnings call that the company was already exploring how it could accept Shiba Inu. Aron said at the time that the company had found a solution that enabled it not to have to hold crypto on its balance sheet, with all the associated risks.

As of now, Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash payments for online banknotes can be made through PayPal, while Shiba Inu and Dogecoin payments are routed through BitPay. Meanwhile, AMC also supports payments through Google Pay and Apple Pay, although these two options do not yet support cryptocurrencies.
